I left on my iTunes, with all my Nirvana music playing. Woke up to the live album of their's that I have on there, and Krist saying "J-j-j-john jacobs!" and all that, and started laughing because he sounded like a complete dork. Best way to wake up, ever.

And I love my natural color brown but I was thinking maybe some...dark red highlights? Give me advice! Lemme see pics! I need to so something about this soon!

Turkish restaurant Alla Turca, hidden away on the quiet side street of Pitt Streetin the city center is apparently just over a year old, and yet I'd never heard of it until earlier today. Browsing online for a dinner date location, James stumbled upon it whilst looking for somewhere a little different. The idea of Turkish food isn't something I was intially keen on, but the promises of live Turkish music and the string of awards the authentic restaurant has been awarded already baited our interests.
First impressions were good. There was indeed live music, from some lute-like instrument being strummed on a perch on a large focal wall, at just the right pitch to enhance the atmosphere and not dominate it. The decor was clean and fresh but warm and the small main dining room had some soul to it. The overall impact gives the place the air of a very modern and chic new restaurant with light-bulb cluster lights and white walls, but with enough touches of Turkish art and colour to maintain the theme without overdoing it or becoming gimmicky. Bathroom sinks are filled with pebbles and shells for the water to bubble through and it is an inexpensive but pleasingly novel way of adding a personal touch. The place is owned and operated by a Turkish family, and the staff were very welcoming and pleasant, keen to answer any questions we had about the exotic menu, and quick to take our coats and make us comfortable. As always, I took the unadventurous option of a Scottish steak, whilst my partner tried something a little more genuine, and although portion size was on the small side, presentation was among those of the higher-end restaurants we've dined in.
One Turkish red wine is served by the glass, and was perfectly smooth, if a little too mellow for my usual tastes, and we made the decision to try a glass of spirit Raki, an aniseed based alcohol traditionally paired with the Turkish version of the starter antipasti plate. Served with a larger glass of water and instructions to mix it if too strong, neither of us could finish off the one glass we asked for to try between us. One aniseed spirit tastes like every other to me, and I have learnt I can drink none of them.
The best part of the meal however was the Baklava, perfectly caramelised layers of pastry with pistacio and ice cream. Paired with the earthy, sweet Turkish coffee, it was the perfect, lingering end to the evening. The bill is discreetly served in a painted wooden box complete with small pieces of Turkish Delight instead of the usual mints.
Alla Turca feels like a hidden jewel of Glasgow dining. With apparently no advertising budget, and difficult to wander across but strong enough to hold its own among the reviewers, the overall experience feels refreshing and interesting enough to hopefully become a Glasgow staple.

What were your favorite books as a child?
I was really into Pippi Longstocking and books about animals like koalas and polar bears and shit.

Then, in my later years, it was all about Animorphs.

Devendra Banhart. |
] |

Devendra Banhart is my current, like, favourite person. I love him so much. Amazing. Marry me, not Natalie Portman.
I went for my USDAW rep induction today. I got the dates for my training. It's in 3 parts, the first in September, so I'll be able to do that. But the second two are in November and December, and I very much doubt I'll be able to take 5 days off uni. That means it could be NEXT SUMMER before I complete my training and it just doesn't seem worth it. I need to talk to Alison at work about it, because there might not be any point me doing the training and becoming a rep, as much as I'd like to. Unfotunately she's not in this weekend so I won't see her till Tuesday.
I keep spending money! Urgh. I spent about £500 last week, no joke. It's two weeks till pay day so I was trying not to spend much, but I've bought 2 t-shirts, a CD (for some reason Coconut Records isn't on vinyl D:) & a tote bag online. Haha. NO MORE SPENDING MONEYS.
I am so tired from today. I only got about 5 hours sleep last night, then I went for this induction, THEN went to work till 8. So I hope my sleeping pattern sorts itself out a little.
